Target Information

Phosphorylation of serine residues on I-kappa-B proteins by IKK kinases, including IKBKB, marks them for degradation via the ubiquitination pathway, enabling activation of the NF-kappa-B complex.
IKK beta (Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta) is a serine kinase essential in the NF-kappa-B signaling pathway, activated by stimuli such as inflammatory cytokines, bacterial or viral products, DNA damage, or other cellular stresses.
IKK beta forms part of the canonical IKK complex, phosphorylating inhibitors of NF-kappa-B on critical serine residues, allowing polyubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Consequently, NF-kappa-B translocates to the nucleus to activate genes involved in immune response, growth control, and apoptosis protection.
Mutations in the IKK beta gene can result in Immunodeficiency 15 (IMD15).
