Product Specific Information

This product contains purified recombinant human C-Reactive Protein (CRP).
It may be used as a positive control in various immunological assays.

Target Information

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a major cyclic, pentameric acute-phase protein composed of five identical, noncovalently bound, nonglycosylated subunits. Each subunit consists of 206 amino acids and has a molecular weight of approximately 24 kDa.
Produced by the liver, CRP levels increase dramatically during inflammatory processes. It initiates the classical complement cascade, binds nuclear components (chromatin, histones), and plays a key role in innate immunity and nonspecific host resistance.

CRP levels can rise 100–1000 fold in response to injury, infection, or inflammation. It acts as an opsonin, activates monocytes/macrophages, and functions as a scavenger during cell necrosis. Elevated basal CRP levels are associated with increased risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
