This gene encodes a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex located in the nucleus of human cells. It exhibits broad tissue expression and is involved in transcriptional regulation, possibly through chromatin remodeling.
It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both proteins share domains for DNA binding, dimerization, and methylation-related functions.
One known target protein is p53, where deacetylation is linked to reduced growth inhibition in transformed cells, suggesting a role in metastasis regulation.
