Target Information
DIABLO (Smac) is a mitochondrial protein that activates various forms of apoptosis, likely through neutralization of IAP (inhibitor of apoptosis) family proteins. During apoptosis, Smac/DIABLO is released from mitochondria into the cytosol.
Mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis plays a crucial role in development and tissue homeostasis, and its dysregulation is associated with malignant disorders. Smac/DIABLO also regulates cancer cell sensitization to apoptosis induced by immune or drug stimuli.
