포유류 DNA 메틸트랜스퍼라아제 유전자군은 Dnmt1, Dnmt2, Dnmt3로 구분되며, Dnmt3a와 Dnmt3b는 ES 세포에서 강하게 발현되나 분화 시 감소합니다.
Dnmt3b 유전자 변이는 희귀 자가 열성 질환인 ICF (Immunodeficiency, Centromeric Instability, and Facial anomalies) 증후군과 관련이 있습니다.
