Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity.
This protein exhibits RNA-independent ATPase activity and is stimulated by both RNA and DNA. It functions in both nucleus and cytoplasm, playing roles in:
- Transcriptional regulation
- mRNP assembly
- Pre-mRNA splicing
- mRNA export
- Translation
- Cellular signaling
- Viral replication
Misregulation of this gene has been linked to tumorigenesis. A paralog exists on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes similar to DDX3 and DDX3Y are found on chromosome 4 and X chromosome. Alternative splicing yields multiple transcript variants.
