Target Information

Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase. This enzyme regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the small GTPase Rho. Active RhoA (GTP-bound form) interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase, controlling the phosphorylation state of myosin light chain (MLC). Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP·RhoA, phosphorylates MBS, leading to inactivation of myosin phosphatase. Overexpression of RhoA or its active form increases MBS and MLC phosphorylation, indicating that Rho inhibits myosin phosphatase via Rho-kinase. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
