Target Information
CD26 (dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPP IV, adenosine deaminase binding protein) is a homodimeric atypical serine protease belonging to the prolyl oligopeptidase family. It is expressed on lymphocyte cells and upregulated during T-cell activation, also found on activated B cells, NK cells, and epithelial tissues.
CD26 participates in T-cell activation, cell adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins (fibronectin, collagens), and HIV infection. It functions as a serine exopeptidase, cleaving X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides.
Alterations in CD26 activity correlate with malignant transformation and tumor severity. Expression changes have been observed in monocytes and CD4+ T cells during rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
