Target Information
CD26 (dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPP IV; adenosine deaminase binding protein) is a homodimeric atypical serine protease belonging to the prolyl oligopeptidase family. It is expressed on lymphocyte cells and upregulated during T-cell activation, also found on activated B cells, NK cells, and epithelial tissues. CD26 participates in T-cell activation, cell adhesion to extracellular matrix components (fibronectin, collagens), and HIV infection. It is identical to adenosine deaminase complexing protein-2 and acts as a serine exopeptidase that cleaves X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides. CD26 activity correlates with malignant transformation and increases with tumor grade. Expression changes are observed in monocytes and CD4+ T cells during rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
