Target Information
Pejvakin (PJVK) is essential for the activity of auditory pathway neurons. Defects in PJVK cause non-syndromic sensorineural deafness autosomal recessive type 59 (DFNB59), characterized by abnormal auditory brainstem responses with normal otoacoustic emissions (auditory neuropathy or auditory dys-synchrony).
Auditory neuropathies result from lesions involving inner hair cells, their connections to the cochlear branch of the auditory nerve, the nerve itself, or brainstem auditory pathways.
The word “Pejvak” means “echo” in Persian.
