Target Information
The protein encoded by XRCC5 is the 80-kilodalton subunit of the Ku heterodimer protein, also known as ATP-dependent DNA helicase II or DNA repair protein XRCC5.
Ku functions as the DNA-binding component of the DNA-dependent protein kinase complex and acts with the DNA ligase IV–XRCC4 complex in repairing DNA double-strand breaks via non-homologous end joining and in completing V(D)J recombination events.
Mutations in this gene can impair DNA repair and recombination, and certain polymorphisms have been associated with cancer susceptibility and radiosensitivity.
