Target Information
The XRCC5 gene encodes the 80-kDa subunit of the Ku heterodimer protein, also known as ATP-dependent DNA helicase II or DNA repair protein XRCC5. Ku acts as the DNA-binding component of DNA-dependent protein kinase and functions with the DNA ligase IV–XRCC4 complex to repair DNA double-strand breaks via non-homologous end joining and to complete V(D)J recombination. Mutations in this gene are linked to defects in DNA repair and variations in radiosensitivity, and certain polymorphisms are associated with cancer susceptibility.
