Target Information
Rhes, also known as tumor endothelial marker 2 (TEM2), is a small GTP-binding protein predominantly expressed in the striatal region of the brain. It belongs to the RASD subfamily of Ras-related GTP-binding proteins and plays a role in normal brain development and function. Mice lacking this gene show increased anxiety and motor coordination deficits.
Rhes (TEM2) was identified through analysis of genes upregulated in tumor endothelium. Tumor endothelial markers are significantly upregulated during angiogenesis and neoangiogenesis, processes crucial for solid tumor growth. TEMs localized on the cell surface and conserved across species are of particular interest for the development of anti-angiogenic therapies.
