Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction complex maturation rather than serving as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with low expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature, a common site of breast cancer metastasis, via its C-terminal extracellular domain. Blocking this domain or inhibiting Metadherin expression has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
