Target Information
Metadherin (also known as MTDH, LYRIC) is a metastasis adhesion protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation rather than acting as a structural component.
Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and tumor xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature, a common site of breast cancer metastasis. Blocking the lung-homing domain or inhibiting Metadherin with siRNA has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
