Target Information

The QPRT gene encodes a key enzyme involved in the catabolism of quinolinate, an intermediate in the tryptophan–nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide pathway.
Quinolinate is a potent endogenous excitotoxin to neurons, and elevated levels in the brain have been linked to neurodegenerative disorders such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and Huntington’s disease.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
