Target Information
This gene encodes coagulation factor III, a cell surface glycoprotein that initiates the blood coagulation cascade. It functions as a high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII, forming a complex that catalyzes the initial proteolytic steps of coagulation. Unlike other cofactors that circulate as inactive precursors, this factor is fully functional when expressed on cell surfaces. It contains extracellular, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic domains. Notably, congenital deficiency of this protein has not been described.
