Target Information
Laminins are essential and abundant structural non-collagenous glycoproteins localized to basement membranes. These membranes, composed of Laminins, Type IV Collagen, Nidogen, and proteoglycans, are found under epithelial layers, around blood vessels, and surrounding muscle, peripheral nerve, and fat cells.
Laminins influence cell proliferation, migration, gene expression, and tissue architecture. Each Laminin is a heterotrimer of alpha, beta, and gamma chains that assemble into the extracellular matrix (ECM) and interact with Integrins, dystroglycan, and Laminin receptors.
The human Laminin gamma-1 gene maps to chromosome 1q31 and is ubiquitously expressed in tissues producing basement membranes.
