Target Information
This gene encodes coagulation factor III, a cell surface glycoprotein that enables cells to initiate the blood coagulation cascade. It functions as the high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII, forming a complex that catalyzes initiation of the protease cascade through specific limited proteolysis. Unlike other cofactors that circulate as inactive precursors, this factor is fully functional when expressed on cell surfaces. It consists of three domains: extracellular, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic. Notably, congenital deficiency of this protein has not been described.
