Target Information
ITGB1 (Integrin Subunit Beta 1, CD29) is a 110 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by various cell types including all leukocytes. It forms heterodimers with multiple alpha chains (α1–α6), determining the binding properties of β1 (VLA) integrins.
It functions as a cell adhesion molecule on platelets and as a component of protein complexes binding to extracellular matrix proteins. Decreased ITGB1 expression correlates with multidrug resistance in tumor cells, while increased expression is associated with immune cell migration and inflammatory responses.
Two major isoforms exist — β1A (expressed in most tissues) and β1D (found in cardiac and skeletal muscle).
