Product Specific Information
This antibody binds the CD18 component of the Beta-2 integrin family, which is expressed by leukocytes and neutrophils.
Target Information
CD18 integrin beta 2 subunit is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes. CD18 combines with integrin molecules CD11a–c to form heterodimers at the cell surface, participating in cell adhesion and signaling.
These heterodimers include:
- αLβ2 (CD11a/CD18, LFA-1)
- αMβ2 (CD11b/CD18, Mac-1, CR3)
- αXβ2 (CD11c/CD18)
- αDβ2 (CD11d/CD18)
These integrins are essential for proper leukocyte migration and intercellular contact. Absence or reduction of CD18 expression can lead to leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD1) and related immune disorders. CD18 also mediates leukotoxin-induced cytolysis and has two known transcript variants.
