Target Information
TLR4 (Toll-like receptor 4) is a member of the Toll-like receptor family involved in pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity. It is expressed mainly in the placenta and myelomonocytic leukocytes. TLR4 mediates cellular responses to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Gram-negative bacteria, forming a receptor complex with CD14 and LY96. Mutations in TLR4 are linked to variations in LPS responsiveness. TLR4-deficient mice show increased susceptibility to Gram-negative sepsis.
