This antibody reacts with CD14, a 53–55 kDa GPI-linked extracellular membrane glycoprotein expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes; also expressed by most tissue macrophages.
In human, the epitope recognized by MEM-18 is located between amino acids 57–64.
Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils.
It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and is released into serum in both secreted and cleaved forms.
CD14 binds LPS in a reaction catalyzed by LBP and plays a role in immune response modulation, apoptosis binding, and inflammatory regulation.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
Diseases associated with CD14 dysfunction include Mycobacterium chelonae infection and Croup.
