Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD11a (alpha subunit of human LFA-1), a 170–180 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Target Information
CD11a (LFA-1 alpha, ITGAL) forms part of the leukocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1) complex with CD18 (αLβ2 integrin).
It plays a crucial role in leukocyte adhesion and signaling through interactions with ICAM-1, ICAM-2, and ICAM-3.
CD11a participates in immune cell interactions, tissue-specific localization, and regulation of T-cell effector functions.
Blocking CD11a activity is a therapeutic strategy in inflammatory diseases, as demonstrated by the anti-CD11a antibody Efalizumab (Raptiva).
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD11a are known. Dysfunctions are associated with benign cephalic histiocytosis and leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
