Product Specific Information

  • 1 µg/mL of MA5-45511 detects MMP9 in 20 µg of COS-1 cell lysate transfected with human MMP9 by colorimetric immunoblot using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
  • Detects approximately 92 kDa (pro form) and approximately 82 kDa (active form).
  • Formerly sold as clone S51-82.

Target Information

MMP9 (matrix metallopeptidase 9) is a zinc and calcium-dependent endopeptidase that degrades extracellular matrix proteins. It is secreted as a 92 kDa zymogen; cleavage produces an active 82 kDa enzyme. MMP9 contains:

  • Gelatin-binding domain (three fibronectin type II units)
  • Catalytic domain with zinc-binding site
  • Proline-rich type V collagen-homologous domain
  • Hemopexin-like domain

Produced by monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, osteoclasts, and endothelial cells, MMP9 plays roles in:

  • Inflammatory responses
  • Tissue remodeling and wound healing
  • Tumor growth and metastasis

MMP9 contributes to skin carcinogenesis and degrades type IV and V collagens. It is implicated in hematopoietic progenitor cell mobilization, tumor-associated tissue remodeling, idiopathic atrial fibrillation, and aortic aneurysm progression.
