Target Information
Alpha-synuclein belongs to the synuclein family, which includes beta- and gamma-synuclein. These proteins are abundant in the brain and regulate synaptic transmission and membrane trafficking.
Alpha- and beta-synuclein selectively inhibit phospholipase D2, suggesting involvement in signaling pathways.
Mutations in the SNCA gene are linked to Parkinson’s disease, and alpha-synuclein peptides are a major component of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease.
