Target Information
The SLC27A4 gene encodes a member of the fatty acid transport protein (FATP) family, which mediates the translocation of long-chain fatty acids across the plasma membrane. This protein is highly expressed on the apical side of mature enterocytes in the small intestine and functions as the principal fatty acid transporter in enterocytes. Clinical studies suggest its association with insulin resistance syndrome, and mutations in this gene have been linked to ichthyosis prematurity syndrome.
