Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain, acting at GABA-A receptors, which are ligand-gated chloride channels. Chloride conductance of these channels can be modulated by agents such as benzodiazepines.
At least 16 distinct subunits of GABA-A receptors have been identified. The GABRA4 gene encodes the alpha-4 subunit, which has been implicated in the etiology of autism through interaction with the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor beta-1 subunit. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been observed.
