Target Information

The CCBE1 gene (Collagen and calcium-binding EGF domain-containing protein 1) is located on chromosome 18, a region frequently deleted in breast and prostate cancers.
CCBE1 encodes a 406 amino acid secreted protein containing two collagen-like domains and one calcium-binding EGF-like domain.
EGF-like domains typically include six cysteine residues involved in disulfide bonds. Calcium-binding EGF-like domains are sensitive to amino acid substitutions that can alter protein structure or calcium affinity, thereby affecting function.
Downregulation of CCBE1 is commonly observed in breast cancer, suggesting its loss may influence cell adhesion and motility due to its extracellular nature.
Three isoforms of CCBE1 are produced through alternative splicing events.
