COL26A1 (EMID2) is a 441 amino acid protein encoded by a gene on human chromosome 7.
Chromosome 7 (~158 million bases) encodes over 1,000 genes and represents ~5% of the human genome.
It has been linked to several genetic disorders including:
- Osteogenesis imperfecta
- Pendred syndrome
- Lissencephaly
- Citrullinemia
- Shwachman-Diamond syndrome
Deletions on the q arm of chromosome 7 are associated with:
- Williams-Beuren syndrome, characterized by mild mental retardation, friendliness with strangers, and an elfin appearance
- Myeloid disorders, including acute myelogenous leukemia and myelodysplasia
