NR1I3 유전자는 핵 수용체(superfamily)에 속하며, xenobiotic 및 endobiotic 대사의 주요 조절 인자입니다. 이 단백질은 DNA에 단일체 또는 retinoid X receptor와의 이합체 형태로 결합하여 cytochrome P450 계열과 같은 약물 대사 및 bilirubin 제거 관련 유전자 전사를 조절합니다. 대부분의 핵 수용체와 달리, NR1I3은 리간드가 없는 상태에서도 활성화되어 있으며, agonist와 inverse agonist 모두에 의해 조절됩니다.
