Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCB1 (PKC beta I), is activated by intracellular signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, localization, and substrate specificity.
PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, and gamma form the conventional family, which are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and play key roles in cellular signaling, acting as major receptors for phorbol esters.
PKC beta I is implicated in B cell activation, apoptosis, endothelial proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. In mice, it may regulate neuronal functions and stress-related behaviors. Alternative splicing produces distinct isoforms.
