Product Specific Information

  • Specificity: Binds specifically to human alpha-tubulin (no crossreactivity with beta-tubulin).

Target Information

Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. Each subunit is approximately 55 kDa, homologous but not identical. The alpha-beta tubulin heterodimer forms the basic building block of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures present in nearly all eukaryotic cells.

Microtubules serve as structural supports and intracellular transport lines, playing a key role in mitosis. They are composed mainly of alpha and beta tubulins, while gamma tubulin is essential for microtubule nucleation. Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes exist and are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene shows high similarity to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, with expression predominantly found in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
