Target Information

CD55 (decay-accelerating factor, DAF) is a GPI-anchored membrane glycoprotein that protects autologous cells from the classical and alternative complement pathways.
It interacts bidirectionally with CD97, influencing T cell regulation and complement activity.
In tumors, CD55 promotes angiogenesis, tumorigenesis, invasiveness, and apoptosis evasion.

CD55 is a ~70 kDa glycoprotein (in erythrocytes) anchored via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol tail.
Other cell types may express higher molecular weight forms with increased O-glycan content.
It binds activated C4b or C3b fragments, preventing assembly and accelerating decay of complement pathways.
CD55 carries Cromer-related blood group antigens.
Two alternatively spliced transcripts exist: one encoding a membrane-bound protein and another producing a soluble form at lower levels.
CD55 has been implicated in prostate cancer growth and survival.
