Target Information

NF-kB is a nuclear transcription factor activated by various extra- and intracellular stimuli such as cytokines, UV radiation, stress, injury, and by bacterial and viral products. It regulates cellular events including growth, differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation.
NFKB1 (p50), a 50 kDa functional subunit of NF-kB, belongs to the Rel protein family. It is synthesized as a p105 precursor containing an N-terminal conserved RHD region with nuclear localization, DNA-binding, and dimerization domains. NFKB1 (p50) forms homodimers or heterodimers with p65 to form the functional NF-kB factor. NFKB1 (p50) directs nuclear translocation of NF-kB and is crucial for its DNA-binding activity.
Pathological roles of NF-kB have been implicated in AIDS, hematogenic cancer cell metastasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
