Anti-beta-2-Microglobulin antibody is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis.
Immunoelectrophoresis shows a single precipitin arc against anti-Peroxidase and anti-Rabbit Serum, as well as purified and partially purified β2-Microglobulin (Human Urine).
Cross-reactivity with β2-Microglobulin from other species is unknown.

Target Information

Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein and a subunit of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I.
It is associated with HLA Class I antigens and expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It also exists in free form in plasma.
The amino acid sequence is homologous to the constant regions of immunoglobulin heavy and light chains with a predominantly beta-pleated sheet structure.
B2M is involved in antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling, and downstream signaling in naive CD8+ cells.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2-microglobulin levels are used to assess renal function and serve as a prognostic marker in HIV infection.
