FOLR2는 folate receptor (FOLR) 패밀리의 구성원으로, 이 유전자들은 염색체 11에 클러스터 형태로 존재합니다. FOLR2 단백질은 엽산 및 여러 환원된 엽산 유도체에 대한 높은 친화성을 가지며, 세포 내부로 5-methyltetrahydrofolate를 전달하는 역할을 합니다. 이 단백질은 FOLR1 및 FOLR3 단백질과 각각 68% 및 79%의 서열 상동성을 가지며, 태반뿐 아니라 다른 조직에서도 발현될 수 있습니다. 또한 류마티스 관절염 환자의 활막 대식세포에서 methotrexate 운반에 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
