Product Specific Information

Specificity: This antibody binds to the T-cell receptor alpha chains.

Target Information

The T-cell receptor (TCR) plays a critical role in the adaptive immune response by distinguishing foreign from self-peptides presented by MHC class II molecules. Recognition of self-peptides can be associated with autoimmune diseases, while mutant self-peptides have been linked to tumors. Superantigen engagement of TCRs is implicated in toxic shock syndrome.

Autoantibodies targeting V beta segments of TCRs have been identified in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), where they may modulate TH1-mediated inflammatory responses. Most human T cells express TCR alpha-beta along with CD4 or CD8, while a small subset lacks both (double negative, DN). Elevated levels of alpha-beta DN T cells are observed in certain autoimmune and immunodeficiency conditions. Gamma-delta T cells, primarily found in epithelial tissues, exhibit limited TCR diversity and distinct antigen recognition, with subsets showing antitumor and immunoregulatory functions.
