Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal protein is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It is a major substrate of ribosomal protein kinases, with phosphorylation occurring on five C-terminal serine residues. Phosphorylation is induced by growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs at growth arrest. This protein may regulate cell growth and proliferation through selective translation of specific mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene exist throughout the genome.
