Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of PKC alpha, beta-I, beta-II, gamma, delta, epsilon, eta, zeta, and theta isoforms only when phosphorylated at a residue homologous to threonine 497 of human PKC alpha.
Purity is >95% by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Members of the protein kinase C (PKC) family play a key regulatory role in various cellular functions including cell growth and differentiation, gene expression, hormone secretion, and membrane function.
PKCs were originally identified as serine/threonine protein kinases dependent on calcium and phospholipids. Diacylglycerols (DAG) and tumor-promoting phorbol esters bind to and activate PKC.
PKCs can be subdivided into at least two major classes:

  • Conventional (cPKC) isoforms: α, βI, βII, γ
  • Novel (nPKC) isoforms: δ, ε, ζ, η, θ

Expression patterns differ among tissues, and PKC family members exhibit distinct cofactor dependencies. For example, the kinase activities of nPKC δ and ε are independent of Ca²⁺.
