Target Information
The 6x His tag is a synthetic oligopeptide consisting of six consecutive histidine residues (HHHHHH).
It is commonly expressed at either the N- or C-terminal regions of recombinant proteins to enable isolation or purification using immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC).
Epitope tagging allows detection of recombinant proteins for which no specific antibody is available.
His-tagged proteins are purified by metal chelate chromatography due to the strong and selective affinity of histidine clusters to metal ions such as Ni²⁺.
His tag-specific antibodies facilitate detection and co-immunoprecipitation of tagged proteins.
