Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a virus causing illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress or death. The SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen of the virus. The glycosylated Spike and nucleocapsid proteins can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
The S1 domain contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that binds specifically to the ACE2 receptor on target cells. Variations in Spike proteins reflect coronavirus diversity, influencing receptor interactions and membrane fusion mechanisms.
