BMP6 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein 6)는 골형성 단백질(BMP) 계열의 하나로, 뼈 형성을 유도하는 분비성 신호 분자입니다.
BMP 계열 단백질은 TGF-β (Transforming Growth Factor-beta) 초가족에 속하며, 탈무기화된 골 추출물이 체외 부위에서 연골내 골형성을 유도할 수 있는 능력으로 처음 확인되었습니다.
BMP6는 배아 발생 초기 발현 양상으로 보아 초기 발달 과정에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있으며, BMP5 및 BMP7과의 높은 유사성으로 인해 골 유도 활성 가능성이 제시되고 있습니다.
