Target Information

IKBKE is an activator of nuclear factor-kappa-B. Overexpression of IKBKE has been observed in breast cancer cells, and suppression of IKBKE induces cell death. NF-kappa-B is a ubiquitous transcription factor and an essential mediator of gene expression during immune and inflammatory responses.
NF-kappa-B mediates the expression of numerous genes in response to extracellular stimuli and is associated with Ikappa-B proteins in the cytoplasm, which inhibit NF-kappa-B activity.
Ikappa-B is phosphorylated by the Ikappa-B kinase (IKK) complex containing IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-γ. A novel molecule in this complex, designated IKK-iota/IKK-i (IKK epsilon), is required for NF-kappa-B activation by PMA and T cell receptors but not by TNF-α or IL-1.
IKK-iota/IKK-i expression is inducible by TNF-α, IL-1, and LPS across various tissues.
