Target Information
Ribosomes catalyze protein synthesis and consist of small (40S) and large (60S) subunits composed of RNA and protein components. The RPS6 gene encodes a cytoplasmic ribosomal protein of the 40S subunit, belonging to the S6E family. It is a major substrate for ribosomal protein kinases and undergoes phosphorylation in response to growth factors and mitogens. This process is linked to cell growth and proliferation regulation. Multiple processed pseudogenes of RPS6 are present throughout the genome.
