Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Cytochrome P450 2A6V2.
Target Information
The CYP2A6 gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids.
This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is induced by phenobarbital. It hydroxylates coumarin and metabolizes nicotine, aflatoxin B1, nitrosamines, and certain pharmaceuticals.
Individuals with specific allelic variants may exhibit a poor metabolizer phenotype for coumarin or nicotine. The gene is part of a large cluster of cytochrome P450 genes (CYP2A, CYP2B, CYP2F) on chromosome 19q.
Formerly referred to as CYP2A3, it has been renamed CYP2A6.
