Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes native human CEACAM5 protein expressed in transfected mammalian cells.
Target Information
CEA (Carcino Embryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors. It belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family, consisting of one N domain and six constant-like domains (A1–A3, B1–B3).
Antibodies to CEA help identify the origin of metastatic adenocarcinomas and distinguish pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
CEA is a glycoprotein tumor marker found in adenocarcinomas of endodermally derived digestive epithelium and fetal colon. The CEA family includes cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins located on chromosome 19. Eleven pseudogenes of the CEA cell adhesion molecule subgroup are also found in this cluster.
Originally described in bile ducts as biliary glycoprotein, CEA is a cell-cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia. It mediates homophilic and heterophilic interactions and is implicated in tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation.
Multiple transcript variants exist, but their full-length nature has not been fully defined.
