Glutamate dehydrogenase 2 (Glud2) is localized to the mitochondrion and acts as a homohexamer to recycle glutamate during neurotransmission.
The enzyme catalyzes the reversible oxidative deamination of glutamate to alpha-ketoglutarate.
Diseases associated with GLUD2 include Parkinson Disease (late-onset) and Familial Hyperinsulinemic Hypoglycemia type 6.
