Target Information
Arginase catalyzes the hydrolysis of arginine to ornithine and urea. Mammalian arginase exists as two isoforms (types I and II), differing in tissue distribution, subcellular localization, immunologic cross-reactivity, and physiologic function. The type II isoform encoded by this gene is located in the mitochondria and expressed in extra-hepatic tissues, especially the kidney. It may play a role in nitric oxide and polyamine metabolism. Transcript variants resulting from alternative polyadenylation have been described.
