Target Information
ZFP281 (also known as ZBP-99) is a transcription factor belonging to a conserved family that binds GC-rich promoter regions. It contains four Kruppel-like zinc fingers and shows high homology with ZBP-89, another regulator of ornithine decarboxylase gene expression.
ZFP281 interacts with transcription factors such as Sp1 to repress vimentin gene transcription and regulates embryonic stem cell pluripotency by directly controlling specific target genes. It physically associates with POU5F1, Sox2, and NANOG. Gene expression analysis indicates ZFP281 can both activate and repress target genes, demonstrating its bifunctional role in stem cell gene regulation.
